PROFESSOR PLUMB MUSIC

EDUCATOR, SONGWRITER, PRODUCER, MUSICIAN

In April of 2020, Benom Plumb debuted his electronic-based music project, The Jolly Backbeat. The Jolly Backbeat displays Plumb’s wide-ranging songwriting and production talents by incorporating various electronic and live instrumentation with pop/electronica vocal and lyrical themes. The first single release, “Snow In April - Birds & Bees Remix”, is about love-making in the transition to springtime across all of creation. The debut track was mixed by Jeff Kanan and mastered by Nick Sullivan of Denver’s The Keep Recording Studio, and highlights Plumb’s musical abilities - as he performs all of the instruments, in addition to singing the lead vocals.

Plumb said this about the making of the track:

“The song was 10 years in the making and began back in my Nashville days, circa 2010. My boss at Bluewater Music gifted me this drum machine, the Roland Groovebox. I started playing around with electronic ideas and really enjoyed the creative possibilities. I recently opened up those old sessions and basically started sampling myself from the writing demos and then added new parts - like the bass line, vocals, lyrics and arrangement. Because of the drums, I think the recording has a cool energy, a sort-of live feel, combined with some sounds from the electronica/glitch world. It feels good to have it out there now, imperfections and all. The song is from the heart in every way and this is what it sounds like when it’s just me in the room. This first release is really just a song demo meant for a powerful female lead vocal, and I’m fine with that.”

The music video for “Snow In April - Birds & Bees Remix” was produced by Plumb entirely alone and under quarantine during the COVID-19 pandemic. In light of that traumatic event, the song also sends a message of hope, fun and encouragement: That one day in the future, we’ll all be near one another again and spring will eventually bloom after this cold winter of isolation.

In 2021, The Jolly Backbeat released a funny Valentine’s bop in February titled, “Sexy Waiting Room”. The song is an electro instrumental track with 70’s / 80’s synth vibes and a funky groove incorporating both electronic and acoustic instruments. “Sexy Waiting Room” is released with a Virtual Reality music video in collaboration with bass player / pianist on the track, Alex Bailey, and VR artist, Carlos Ramirez. “California Moon”, another collaboration with Alex Bailey, was released in August of 2021 along with an animated music video created by Keenan Goodwine. "California Moon" was inspired by Benom Plumb's move to Northern California in the summer of 2020 and experiencing the cool delta breeze at night. The instrumental is an upbeat, lofi-inspired track that was added to multiple user-generated playlists on Spotify.
